That is so awesome!
I saw beautiful, and probably gravid, gopher snake get hit when I was out herping this spring, and she was not so lucky. It amazes me the dtachment of drivers, and their ability to ignore these animals on the road. Most of them would stop for the ubiquitous tree rat, but don't notice our scaly pals. So sad. It's sad because tree rats (squirrels) mature and breed so much more quickly, and prolifically compared to the slower maturation and lower net population growth of reptiles.
I am stunned with your story, and it has brightened my morning to read it.
