Where are your balls? I have some Ludisia discolour in a couple of my vivs growing on LECA, but they don't like wet soil-type substrates. These have new roots growing low down on the stem which start of looking like fuzzy balls. OTOH, it could be fungus if they are rotting - hard to tell without a picture.
