I've had trouble growing Jewel orchids (or any other kind) in my vivariums. It's mostly a problem with not enough light, as well as perhaps persistently too humid conditions. They survive, but only prosper in newly set-up tanks, eventually get overwhelmed and shaded by the other plants. I've never had one bloom in the tanks except for the "about to bloom" originals. Otherwise, I mostly salvage them into a new tank as they show signs of rot.
I also wonder about growing orchids in a vivarium, since most orchids are heavy feeders, and of course we don't want to add fertilizers to our frog tanks. Some people seem to grow them successfully in dart viviariums, however. I'd like to hear more about how they do this. ----- Patty
