I usually feed my Rainbows at night when they are most active. That way they eat the prey item when it's still warm (beter feeding response) and if they haven't eaten it by morning I remove it and throw it out. If after thawing, the prey item smells bad, I don't feed it to my snakes. The smell of a decomposing pinkie is bad, but the smell of a rat gone bad is horrible and hard to clear out of the snake room!
