I tell you I have seen a big old black rat in MO eat a medium sized squirrel. The unlucky squirrel was feeding at my grandmothers bird feeder and the snake was laying in the grass nearby. It was pretty cool to watch the snake lying there in the grass still as a stick, just biding his time. And when the squirrel got close enough, Bam the rat snake had it. Didnt take long for the snake to dispatch the squirrel and chow down. Pretty awesome when you think how big a squirrels teeth are!!



I have come across a black rat raiding a rabbit nest as well. I was out in one of our fields dove hunting and heard a bunch of whistling/squeeling sounds, so I decided to investigate. Following the sound I found a black rat perhaps 4 or 5' long eating some baby rabbits in a nest he had found. He didnt get startled and I stood there maybe 10' away and watched him eat all the babies and then just crawl off into the weeds with 5 or 6 lumps in him!!



The rat snakes are natures trash compactors. They will eat anything that will fit in their mouths.
