Wood cage help?

I am building a 8x4x4 cage for my black throat, due to him completely outgrowing any tank i bought. Anyway, i have it built but i was wondering if i could screw a thin sheet of plexiglass down to the floor of the cage in order to make it easier to clean. So i was wondering if it would be safe or does it give off any kind of harmful vapors when the cage is warmed up.
