several things can stress/harm a box turtle (thereby reducing it's health):



1) cramped conditions (a ten gallon tank is miserably small)

2) glass walls (often they stress and don't seem to understand the invisible barrier)

3) constant moving and handling

4) air conditioning/drafts



The box turtle is best off if left outdoors 24/7, even for feeding. Get a piece of slate to use as a plate and it'll help wear down her beak as well.



Stock the pen with an order of a few hundred earthworms dumped in so she can hunt them, plant plenty of low plants for hiding, and definately provide some hiding spots.
