Proportional Thermostat vs the normal thermostat

Hi,

I am planning on buying a new thermostat, and I have been thinking about getting a proportional thermostat. However, I am not sure if the proprtional thermostat is worth the extra money. Are they really as good as people say they are? I only need it for two cages whose occupants have identical heat requirements. Should I go for the proprtional or just get a good normal thermostat? By the way, is there any way to boost the wattage of the proportional thermostats? THanks, Josh
