By "green anole" I assume you mean carolinensis, not just any green anole, so it probably was not an equestrius, but either a large cb, or likely it was Norops (anolis) biporcatus. Biporcatus Looks almost exactly like the green anole of the south eastern US(a. carolinensis), but a few cm bigger and different dewlap color. Norops biporcatus is located in Mexico down to Panama ( not sure of exact distribution in Mexico, getting peretsons guide soon, audobon is way outdated). Its known there as the green anole (sometimes called giant green anole).
There common in their range, but noone imports them that I know of.
