yea, i agree about the difficulty in the first month. i remember it was almost exactly a year ago now when i hatched out my first phantasticus (rex will be 1 year old on the 9th!!!). the first 2 months, all 3 that hatched were extremely tiny, and im still in awe that i was able to successfully raise each that hatched. while i was successful by starting them off on regular drosophila melanogaster, i think this time around i am going to try pinheads (flies get to be such a pain!). most certainly, from the many places ive called in search of phants in the past, each person who has told me they produced eggs told me that the #1 problem they had was not getting them to hatch, but getting the hatchlings to survive and eat. my best advice is keep them really cool and keep them in something small and simple. i kept my hatchlings at the mid to high 60's and started to feed small crickets as soon as they were big enough to swallow the smallest of the small ones you can find at the pet store. it was tedious, but i dont regret it a bit! but as im sure you can tell from the ones you have successfully raised past that first month or two, they sure do go thru some great bursts of growth for a while!
