I think you can keep any sub-species in Texas EXCEPT D.c.erebennus (Texas Indigo). That means you can have any of the Cribos...melanurus, rubidus, corais, unicolor, etc. (good luck finding some of them), AND you can keep Eastern Indigos (D.c. couperi)as long as they are captive born from legal stock. The one thing to remember about the Easterns is that if you are purchasing the animal across state lines, a Federal Permit is required for interstate commerce because the Eastern Indigo is listed as Threatened under the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973. You can contact the U.S.F.W Service in Atlanta for the transport permit. The name of the person in charge of those permits is Victoria Davis. She can give you details and you can download the permit applications from their website.
I have just the opposite situation. I can keep Texas Indigos, but not Easterns because Easterns are native to Georgia.
