IMHO 4 ft is rediculous unless its a walk in enclosure .



3ft is pushing it also IMHO i have kept 18 ft burms in a 6x2 cage and they were more then comfy . How often do you see a large burm out running ? lol 90% of the time they are coiled up or only really use a cage when there working up a good poop i would say 24 - 30 is plenty deep for you and you can clean it without climbing in thecage with the snake aswell.
