If there was something hanging out of the males "area" then he was most likely trying to breed. Chances are if he wasn't successful this time, he will be in the next night or two. It is very hard to tell if a female is gravid until she is almost ready to lay her eggs. I didn't notice them in mine until literally the day before she layed them. I happened to walk in on them mating, so I knew the exact date and time that they mated. She layed her eggs exactly 30 days later, and as I said, did not notice the eggs until the 29th day. Around the 25-27th day I remove my females and put them in a smaller cage with a nest box. There are many ways to make a nest box, here is what I did... I used an air-tight tupperware container(about 6" high and round) and filled it halfway with moist shredded coconut husk. The substrate in the nest box should not be soaked, but not dry either. I put a half log on top for a hide so she was more comfortable laying in the box. I use paper towel on the bottom of the cage for a substrate, because if dirt is used then she may lay in the cage dirt instead of the nest box. To incubate I just put the lid on the tupperware once she lays her eggs and leave it in her cage. Every two to three days the top should be removed to let fresh air in to avoid mold. About halfway through the gestation period you can use a small very fine artist's brush to gently remove some of the dirt that is on top of the egg. Sorry for the long post! Hope it helps.
