I am going to try this coco husk mix for my chondro I think, it's a mixture of shredded coco husk and ground coco husk. it holds humidity very well, you spot clean it when it gets soiled, then replace it every month or so.
i would email daryl at www.creaturetravelers.com and tell him what you are interested in. the mixture i'm using is soft Chips and Soft Soil, mixed with sphagnum moss. He's a great guy... and free shipping over $20. I just placed my order, great customer service i'd highly reccomend him.
and he can also go into detail about mildewing and such.
however i've heard coco husk products can hatch fruit flies.
Hi,
I have been wanting to put in some bedding in my iguana-like lizards cage. I was thinking of bark mulch or something, but now I am leaning towards coconut fiber bedding. The cage is kept at constant high humidity levels(65-100%). I have heard it holds humidity very well, which is needed, and for some reason it does not mildew. I heard a couple of companies say that it does not mildew, is that true? Is there a risk of impaction if it is ingested? Is there any way to sanitize it, or should I change it out when it is soiled? I have seen people sell it compressed into a carpet-like product. Would a product like that work well? Also, I know cork fares well in a high humidity environment, so could you use the cork board/bulletin board stuff in a cage? I have seen rolls of this cork product for sale and I wanted to use it for covering shelves in my cages as my animals slip and slide on the current shelves. I though I could put velcro on the shelves and the cork so I could clean it or change it out. Could cork like this be cleaned? Would it be dangerous if the little pieces it is made of were ingested? Thanks for the help, jrbl ----- -Chris
