This may not be the cheapest, but laminate countertop from a Home Depot or such will be nice. Its usually around $40-50 for a 4'x8' sheet. A few tubes of the adhesive and your good to go. You can cut it to size, secure it to each surface, and viola! This is a good material because its non-porous (designed for kitchen and bath counters after all) and very tough. Its also easy to clean and shouldn't stain. You could then place a sealant around the joins and have a nice watertight cage.
I'm planning on building a custom setup with this. But please, anyone with feedback please lemme know. It may not be the cheapest but it will last a loooooong time.
