However, ceftazidime (Fortaz) is a much better first choice for it is not only safer, it also has a wider spectrum of bactericidal activity than amikacin. In fact, ceftazidime is one of the best of all the cephalosporin antibiotics. There are only a very few species of bacteria that would require the use of amikacin over ceftazidime. | ||
