I use only wood for my bases, with several coats of paint. I use a plywood base for the floor, covered with vinyl flooring. I get it cheap thru my work, or you can get in good with a vinly flooring store and get scraps, because thats all you really need is scraps like 2x2 or whatever size your cage bottom is..
