My first dart frog tank was built from scratch. I had many of the same questions as you: acrylic or glass, front opening or top, etc. Below is a link to some pics and comments on how I built my tank. I am currently working on a second one of a slightly different design: mostly plywood with a hinged front opening.



I personally like working with glass over acrylic because it does not scratch as readily, it is far less expensive, and readily available locally when compared to acrylic. Plus, I have no experience working with acrylic, and would hate to ruin my tank half way through. Finally, acrylic is known to warp under humidity and heat.



Just my thoughts.
