Recently I started messing around with a dirt substrate for Sydney. The first batch I made horribly, because I didn't have a lot to work with. It's not a good mix at all...it's too sandy, so when you add water it turns into mud, and it has a lot of wood chips in it (actually....I added them as a base because I didn't have a lot of dirt), and they all floated to the top. He hasn't licked them or anything yet though, so it will be fine until I can go out (maybe this weekend) and get some better materials to work with.
Anyways, the funny story...ever since I moved him onto dirt, he's been a little more wild. He's been basking with a proud look on his face, and struttin' his stuff around. There really is a noticable change. So I was getting ready to go to a drum lesson when I saw him basking with his head held high, looking all majestic, so I told my mom to go in and look at him. As soon as she walks in she says "Hey Syd", and he just whips around on his basking spot, throws out the black beard, and hisses at her.
Jeesh...usually such a sweet lizard. I guess you just don't want to sneak up on him when he's basking  After ten minutes passed he was still in a sort of defensive position with his black beard out, looking a little confused, so I picked him up quick and immediately his black beard went away. What a strange lizard.
