Hi Althea,
In my opinion the Russians are one of the most personable snakes I have come accross, even more so than corns. Very placid, very relaxed and very unafraid... when cleaning out, I am happy to let him wander around the room as he doesn't scurry off anywhere. The only drawback of them is their size, expect an adult snake of 6 feet plus.
I have found though that keeping them cool is very important and mine do tend to get irritable if they are kept at much above 82F in the basking area.
The Anomala on the other hand are not personable at all... they are very shy, mainly nocturnal and a couple of mine will only eat in their hides. I have not found them to be aggressive though... just nervous. I have had my adult for 6 years now and have been bitten only once. However, once out and being handled, they do seem to calm down almost immediately and become docile and inquisitive like Russians... I certainly wouldn't let these wander around like the rssians though... lol. A very Jeckyll and Hyde snake in my opinion and a very interesting animal.
