The idea is to place the cage in an area that the temps are as stable as possible so as to leave the lights and temps as stable as possible. They go underground to get away from the heat (not light), they simply close their eyes to sleep, they after all can sleep just fine with lights on 24/7. They hide to sleep, conserve moisture, cool off, or sometimes to warm up, and to escape stress, or simply to get privacy. Give them a 24/7 lighting in their cage and they can decide when night and day are, not you.
