What "sounds" cool to you is a matter of personal taste, but wanting a 6-8 foot, colorful, reasonable calm snake might lead me to suggest a Boa Constrictor. Some of the morphs are very colorful, many will get 6-8 feet (and a 6 foot boa is still a much bigger snake that a 6 foot kingsnake).
