Most day geckos, captive bred, acclimate to their new surroundings less than a week. Anything longer and something is usually not right. When the environment is correct, most day geckos wander around their enclosure and then return to basking areas when needed.

Are you sure you have captive bred? Possible he is sick?
Is the humidity adequate? 65%-70% for grandis
Is the bottom of the enclosure too cool so that he must stay high all day long?
