My boa came to me with mites, and I was so upset with the breeder because none of my animals had ever had mites before. What I recommend is (depending on how many pets you have) lightly rubbing your snake down with Frontline spray (for dogs and cats). This stuff is absolutely deadly to mites and kills the ones on the head without even touching them, as well as their eggs. It will also leave a residue that should stick around until the snake sheds. Also, Provent-A-Mite is GREAT for use around the cage and on the cage furniture. Keep your set-up very simple with paper towels, a smooth, sanitary hide (not a wood one where escapees can embed their eggs), and a water dish. Sprinkle some Sevin dust in the cage just beneath the paper towels. I also recommend buying all new cage furniture, however the ability to do this depends on you. This worked well for me and I have fortunately not had a mite problem since.
