>>i have a 20 gal. tank (glass) with 2 inches of lava rock, 3 inches of dirt and live moss. there is a waterfall, fogger, fake plants and one live plant. humidity is around 80-85% WITHOUT lights on. once lit, the tank dries out. humidity is better when fogger is running but low...30% or so. without light the tank is only around 70-75 degrees. i have a RETF who i am told needs 80-85 degrees and 80-90% humidity. i can't seem to maintain both. i have put the fogger on a timer, lights on a timer, etc. but then everything is irregular.

A couple of things:
1. Live *plants will help increase/maintain humidity.
2. A water dish will help a small amount.
3. If you have a screened top, covering off part of
it so that the moisture doesn't escape out of it
can help. Also if you have any side ventilation
covering off part of that can help.
What type of lighting are you using that would bring
the humidity level down so fast so far? Maybe if you
can, try lowering the amount of heat source/light
lamp.
From what I gather you're using some type of heat
lamp??? You could try using clamp lamps with lamp
stands for them so you could better position the
sources of both light and heat to focus on a more
specific area of the tank as well as be able to
distance them from the inside of the tank better
rather than the whole tank like an
over-the-entire-tank tank top light/heat source
might do. Hope that helps. Good luck. Peace.
