O.K., I have a 6 foot diamond/carpet cross that I want to move into my CagesByDesign cage as her permanent home. It measures about 5 ft. long, 4 ft. high and 2.5 ft. wide. The cage has a wire "basket" where the incandescent fixtures go and flourescent strips can be placed and locked without harming the snake from touching the bulbs. There are 1 inch wide ventilation holes on the back of the cage and on the top. It has sliding glass for viewing and melamine panels.......................Now, here's my dilemma: humidity. I'm thinking about putting cypress mulch as a substrate, build a custom hide box and place my already "fitted", cleaned branches in the cage for arboreal cruising. I have been told that if I "wet" the mulch by pouring water on the substrate, the cage will retain humdity well. For such a large cage............do you think this will work? Another idea is river-stone and spray the stones daily??? Anyone have a large enclosure and how do they reatin humidity and/or what ideas do you have? Thanks for your help, it's greatly appreciated!
