Posted by: serpentcity at Sun Mar 6 16:47:10 2005 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by serpentcity ] ...females CAN ovulate without being bred, but almost always (9999.9% of time)lay duds...my original female received in 1969 as a juvenile did ovulate and lay good eggs in her 22nd year without exposure to another ball python, let alone a male, in the previous 8 years...3 of 4 eggs hatched, one went full term dead-in-egg...this is obviously an EXTREME example but clearly illustrates the potential of female BP's...much more recently is the verified example of parthenogenesis in the burmese in the Netherlands...
