They actually get darker on top with age. I had a pair for many years. They don't usually aclimate well to captivity, but the ones that do are prolific eaters and have awesome personalities, one of my favorite snakes. They generally eat eels in the wild, but once they start eating, they'll eat anything that moves. Their jaws do not seperate like most snakes to eat larger prey, but they make up for it with biting power.
