questions on heating 32q tub rack for Ball Pythons

I'm debating how to heat the rack. I was thinking of using 11" heat tape running under the back of the tubs so that the latter 11" x 16" will be heated from below. But I'm wondering if I could just run heat tape down the back of the rack and if it would work as well? This would use less heat tape, and less energy as well.



What are peoples experiences with this? I would think it would be best to heat from below. I intend to create a lidless rack from sterlite 32q tubs. The rack will be of solid 3/4" melamine on all levels, and the sides and the back. I'm also hoping to (eventually) control it with the big apple herp thermostat, until then I'll be using a dimmer.
