Rattlesnakes are biting in Tucson
Be aware! Rattlesnake season has begun. Already, two Tucsonans were bitten Friday.
A 49-year-old woman was bit on the Northeast side on her foot and a 17-year-old boy on the Southwest side was trimming weeds, when a rattlesnake bit him on the hand.
Both were immediately rushed to a local hospital, and are expected to recover just fine.
This perfect weather in March and April, is perfect for snakes to come out and stay out, which means everyone needs to watch out.
Herpatologist Hugh McCrystal says, "rattlesnake invenimations are very painful. Usually there's some burning, discoloration. Sometimes there's not. Sometimes you can be invenomated with no symptoms, which is why it's important to call 911 right away, no matter what."
Only professionals should handle snakes. Even dead ones can be dangerous. Reflex bites with envenomation can occur several hours after death.
