Well, I'm glad you saved his little (or not) tail. Here's some random thoughts... Shots in the dark so to speak. I'm assuming you're getting him to a good herp vet.

Is it possible that the skin troubles are caused by a few bad sheds lying one over the other?

And if you try Gatorade (never heard of using it like that and I very strongly recommend checking with your vet before trying it) I'd water it down a fair amount. From what I've heard, with humans, the electrolytes (salts, vitamins etc) in Gatorade are much more concentrated than what we actually need to hydrate properly.

I'm glad he has a good home now and good luck.
