Cooling is usually necessary for viable sperm production and successful breeding with many boids (and other snakes). However, the burmese python is not an animal that takes this well. It probably should not be a practice at all. But if the snake has recently been bred I would be willing to bet it was cooled and you should have a vet see him and keep your temps and humidity up.
