The first clutch is always the hardest. Also infertile clutches can be retained for an extended period of time and seem like she is egg bound. Generally speaking if your female is still willing to take some food, even if its just a little bit, she is probably okay. I have seen females take up to six months to drop an infertile clutch, they tend to be stressed and loose weight, but not to the point that it's life threatening. Females that refuse to feed altogether and do not lay within two-three weeks of the first hole dug, or the eggs becoming noticeable, are in trouble.
