I'd take a lot of this article with a very large grain of salt. Alex is a good mate and we put out a very good article together on the molecular evolution of three finger toxins in elap;ids

However, that is the only article we have collaborated on. The subsequent discoveries of venom in colubrids did not involve him. The reporter made a scrabled egg mess of the rest. For example, the article in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications
http://www.venomdoc.com/downloads/2005_BGF_Oxyuranus_natriuretic_toxin.pdf
did not involve Alex at all, being instead the centerpiece of my Ph.D. work that took several years to see the light of day because the toxins were being patented for use in the treatment of congestive heart failure.
I put the blame for the abundant errors on the reporter rather than Alex. The reporter was obviously being a Trudy Tryhard in an attempt to play up the local angle. He also got it wrong about me being a cross between Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin. I think I'm more of a cross between David Lee Roth and Einstein ;-D
Cheers
