I like to give my girls al least a year off. Most don't. But, I feel that it is best for the females in the long run.
I guess it really depends on how much weight an animal has lost as well. Both my females didn't eat through their pregnancy. I would have been a fool to try and breed them a few months later. I have given both females a year off. One looks ready. The other one is questionable. I will see if the other is ready by Nov.
That is what I go by. Their looks and weight.
But, this is a side thing for me. I don't plan on being a "big" person in the hobby. They are pets over breeders any day of the week for me. (Not trying to sound better than anyone else. This is just how I want to do it for me and my animals.)
Hope this helps.
John
