Here a few snakes I have kept that I think are underated -
Baird's Ratsnake
African Housesnakes
African Molesnakes (Pseudaspis)
Desert (Russian) Sandboa (Eryx miliaris)
These species are hardy, docile, and easy to keep. I don't know why they don't attract much attention other than the fact they aren't brightly colored.
Baird's rats are up and coming. The Molesnakes and sandboa haven't been widely available.
Checkered Gartersnakes are pretty amazing starter snakes as well that aren't often seen in captivity. ----- Chris Harrison
