It's also pretty variable among individuals. I have a male and female from the same bloodline and the male has lots of color coming through and the female still shows almost none. They're not quite a year old yet, but I don't think she's going to have nearly as much color (she's the one pictured). Regardless, it's very cool to see a solid metallic gray snake.
