Not necessary unless you get Boas in all the time with mites. New Boa's cages should be sprayed down(should be quarantined) and that should do the trick. I don't like using chemicals no matter what anyone says, so I try to use the PAM sparingly.
I was sold a Boa with mites when I first got back into snakes and they are a nightmare. Never had a mite on an animal until then(and I worked a Reptile shop as a kid). My collection is clean and I make sure not to open new packages upstairs in my snake room. Always open new packages away and fully inspect them. It helps getting snakes from reputable sellers but there is always a chance a mother blood sucker is tagging along.
I did use PAM and I have been mite free for awhile now. Everyone has their own ways though but I would never spray the animal directly with any chemicals unless it has been thouroughly tested for such use.
