Nelsoni have wider black bands ** but not always **.



Sinaloae have wider red bands.



"Classic" nelsoni often have a few black bands touching near the rear of the snake ** but not always **.



Nelsoni have a slightly higher band count ** but not always **.



Sinaloae are larger ** but not always **.



The above is what I've seen in my own snakes anyway. Alot depends on locale. The sinaloans from the north-west part of their range can be large and very orange-red with thin black. The nelsoni from certain parts of their range can be dark with lots of black. As you get closer to where they intergade, it is anyone's guess as to what is what.



Look on the classifieds. You can often see baby sinaloans that have very wide red bands. That is what you look for in a sinaloan. See Applegate Reptiles for a picture of one locale of nelsoni.
