Light won't affect anything. Remove the hide area, I introduced a female blue eastern garter into my male melanistic eastern garter's enclosure last night, removed the hide area, and the male immediately started following her. They mated a couple of times and are actually still going at it.
You can leave them overnight if you want, I won't suggest leaving them together, or seperating them, it's your choice.
You can wait until after she sheds, if may or may not make a difference. The male will try and mate with her either way.
