escape proofing aquariums

I have a cornsnake who thinks he's houdini, and seems to be able to get out of anything. His aquarium has a simple top that makes escpape easy... How can I make his cage escape proof? any suggestions? i'm getting tired of having to put heavy books on top to keep him in, and want to find a better solution. Thanks for your help!!
