You can buy velcro with adhesive backing on it at pretty much any hardware or crafts store. Just cut it to size and then this is how you apply it.



Take the stuff covering up the adhesive off of one 1"-2" long section of velcro (either the hook part or the loop part) and stick it to the aquarium glass right up near the top so that that when you put the top on, it's just below it. Then take the stuff covering the adhesive off of another peice of velcro (this one you have to measure) and put it on the top and/or side of the little metal rim on the top so that it matches up with the piece you put on before. It also has to be the same style as the other piece (hook or loop). Then, take the other part (if you used hook for the part you just did, use loop, etc) and do not take the junk that covers the adhesive off. This will be used to connect the tank to the lid. Do at least one of these for each side of the tank if it is under 30" long. If anymore than that, use two on the long side for extra security.



That's the best Idea I have heard so far. You shouldn't have any problems with that for a cornsnake. Now, if it was a boid, you would probably have to do a crap load of those little things all around the tank, maybe with some weights on top as well. I have also seen some people using straps that go all the way around the tank to keep the lid on, but that would be over kill for a cornsnake. Anything big enough or strong enough to need that kind of security should be in a custom cage with a locking door
