Sorry - I must've misunderstood. I wouldn't have thought that you need to keep the temp up all across the tank. It only needs to be higher at the warm end. As the cool end is 74, I'd say you have the setup there, just fine. It shouldn't be any higher than that. Are you happy with the temp at the warm end?
I measure temps at ground level for the ones in low-level vivs. If you're concerned about keeping the temp up on higher levels (if they have climbing branches or shelves), then you might need another UTH on a wall, higher up.
