camera question

what types of digital cameras does everyone use? i'm looking for something that will allow for good resolution on close-ups (i.e. photos of cresteds). i have an OLD (from 2000) Kodak DC280. it does great on 'normal' distance and 'wide' shots, but when i try to get close-ups of my cresteds, the result isn't that great.
