I agree, he needs to put on more weight. What is your friend feeding him, or better yet, what isn't he feeding him? By 9 months I would consider a male small if it was under 600 grams, by comparison all the three seven month olds I have are all over 700 grams right now with one of them pushing 1000 grams. I am not power feeding them, if I was they would all be over 1000 grams. Have your friend make sure his temps are up and start feeding that guy. He should be ready by this breeding season.
As for the split I would say whoever has the most expensive morph gets first pick and then the other person gets second pick and so on and so on until there are no more hatchlings left. So if your YB proves out you get first pick and if not he gets first pick.
