For the past two years (and on a very recent post by Robert Mcphee) hobbyists have expressed frustration with the positive identification of a Jungle boa....especially as it pertains to "low expression" Jungles that don't show an abundance of pattern aberrancies. One of the identification tools was that in a litter of Jungles, the true Jungles can be picked out based on color alone. This one is difficult to accept on face value for the majority of people because they haven't had the privelege of staring down at a Jungle litter. Until recently, I faced this same dilemma. I owned Jungles but I had never seen them together with their normal siblings. Well, on Monday morning when I found a litter of Jungles I was immediately aghast because I saw babies in the water dish (I had even switched her to a smaller dish to avoid this possibility). I scooped two live babies out of the dish leaving one drowned one behind. These two babies sat together away from the main pile and remained there. Ultimately I took their photo. It wasn't until later that I realized that it was the perfect photo. It shows a normal sibling sitting right next to a relatively low expression Jungle. Compare the "3 C's" - cleanliness, color, & contrast. I think it is a very telling photo and shows what people mean when they say "well, you just know". This doesn't solve the problem of people selling any abberrant boa as "Jungle" therefore the buyer is always left with the burden of doing their homework and making wise choices when beginning a Jungle project.
