I use halogen bulbs to save power. They do put off much more heat than incandescants of a similar wattage, but if you just use a smaller wattage, (I use 50w indoor/outdoor flood, NOT spot, from Home Depo, and it gets the cage as hot as a 100w incandescant) then you save big money on the energy bill! I use just a normal ceramic "clamp lamp" fixture. How far is the bulb from the basking site? (This will help determine the wattage you need to get between the necessary 100*-105*F)
