I sometimes put coco-fiber (similar to peat in consistency) on top but I still cover it with the PC as I showed in last post (hold it in place with bent paper clips). What you want to avoid is putting something on top that will keep TOO much moisture in b/c then you can have a problem with fungus gnats - harmless, but annoying! ;-/



If you use the peat, make sure it is moist before ahnd as it is very difficult to deal with when dry (ditton for coco-fiber). If you can just stay away from the perlite you really don;te have to worry. Oh, you can also put large river stines on the soil, but again, make sure there is enough air getting to soil to avoid the gnat problem.
