Nice cages!!! As for the substrate, is it possible they could have been referring to coco fiber (Bed a Beast, etc.)? I use that in my BRB's cage, and she really seems to enjoy it. It can make spotting feces a little difficult due to its darker color, but if you check the cage thoroughly, it's not much of a problem. It also holds humidity very well.
