I had the exact same thing happen 2 weeks before my clutch hatched.

Like you said, these things happen. It's just Mother Nature. Only the strong survive. I did however learn that I'm not gonna leave any future eggs on their side when I transfer the clutch to the incubator. I feel that my egg being on its side the whole time might have contributed to it starting to mold and eventually caused it to die. Good luck with the rest of them.
